Discovering the Companion Plus at the Chicago Abilities Expo in 2021 changed the entire trajectory of my independence. At the time, my family and I were seriously considering a power chair because I couldn’t push my manual wheelchair the distances required for university. But choosing a power chair would have meant major lifestyle changes like getting a van, home modifications, and a level of dependence I wasn’t ready for.
The Companion gave me a different option. It allowed me to keep my manual chair, maintain my independence, and actually expand it. Over the past five years, it has traveled with me through four countries, countless campus days, and every milestone of my university experience. Looking back, getting the Companion is one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.
